Installation is simple
Every portrait ships with industrial 3M VHB mounting tape already applied. Peel, press, done — no drilling, no epoxy, no monument company required.

Step-by-step
1. Clean the surface
Wipe the area of the headstone where the portrait will sit with a dry cloth, then with isopropyl alcohol if available. The stone must be clean, dry, and free of dust, dirt, or moss.
2. Dry-fit first
Hold the portrait in place (without removing the tape liner) to confirm the exact position and orientation you want. Mark lightly with chalk if helpful.
3. Peel the 3M tape liner
Your portrait ships with a small piece of pre-applied 3M VHB industrial mounting tape on the back. Peel off the red protective liner — do not touch the adhesive.
4. Press firmly
Position the portrait exactly where you want it and press firmly across the entire surface for 30 seconds. Apply even pressure so every part of the tape bonds.
5. Let it cure
The bond reaches roughly 75% of its strength in the first hour and full strength in 24–72 hours. Avoid washing or stressing the portrait during the first day.
Best practices
Above 60°F
3M VHB bonds best when both the stone and the air are above 60°F. In cold weather, warm the area with a hair dryer before applying.
Clean & dry
Any moisture, dust, or residue weakens the bond. Wipe the area with isopropyl alcohol for the strongest result.
Press evenly
Apply firm, even pressure for at least 30 seconds across the whole portrait so every part of the tape makes contact.
Working with a monument company?
Most monument companies install portraits a little differently — they will route or cut a recess in the stone the exact size of the porcelain so the plaque sits perfectly flush with the surface. This is the most permanent option, but it requires professional equipment.
You do not need to do this. The 3M VHB tape that ships with every portrait creates a permanent, weatherproof bond that lasts decades. If you prefer a flush install, simply give your portrait to your local monument company — they will know what to do.
